WHAT IS A DMC?
A Destination Management Company (DMC) is a service offered by professionals to help provide you with an extensive array of services including expertise and knowledge on various events, event coordination, tours, trips, and locations to which you are choosing to travel to. They can also help you work out the logistics of you and your group’s trip, such as travel and accommodations as well as events, activities, and things to do once you arrive at your destination. These services can continue throughout the continuation and duration of your stay.

WHAT EXACT SERVICES DOES A DMC OFFER?
A DMC can offer whatever kind of service you as need as a business traveler to make your trip (and the trip of your group) a memorable one. Most DMC companies will provide an array of services including anything from meeting venues to a business group to transportation from the airport to a final destination. Many DMCs will be happy to help book events during your stay if you want to visit local attractions or museums or find other fun activities and excursions to do. Many coordinate for business people the use of conference centers and places to hold their meetings. Others are happy to secure venues for parties and events. They are wonderful resources for finding someone to cater food, provide event design and decor, or entertainment for any event you may be hosting.

HOW MUCH DOES A DMC COST? 
Cost will really depend on the services you need and how much work the company has to do as to what it will cost you to hire their services. Most DMC companies will charge a fee to hire their staff, and this fee will cover their research and booking costs for their time for the workers at the company. You will also have to pay separately for the services you receive based on the vendors or external companies they recommend you use for various services. DMC’s are great at working with budgets for functions and events to find something that meets the client’s price range. Be sure to let them know up front what you can spend so they find activities that fit within your budget.

BE SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT YOU EXPECT:
When you are giving the DMC descriptions of the events you want to book be sure to be as thorough as possible. Give details of what exact events you are going to hold or what specific kinds of travel your group requires. Specify the types of transportation and lodging you prefer. There’s no such thing as giving too many details. The more the DMC knows about your needs list the more they can do to meet your specific needs and expectations.

CHECK TO SEE IF MARKUPS EXIST:
It’s also a good idea to check with the DMC to see if their fee for their services is all they charge, or if they charge an extra fee for each individual event they book or service they provide. For example, many services can be marked up much as 10-20% of the cost of the service than if you were to find and book it yourself. This is in addition to the fee that the agency or company will charge on their own to even get them to do the research and booking for you. Be sure you are willing to pay all these fees by reading the fine-print before moving forward.

Spider-Man Climbs The Ninja Tower Before Hitting Summer Cinemas

The newest film in the series of Marvel Comics movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming opened last week with a successful summer box office weekend…making it the #1 movie in the world. ABOUT THE FILM:
Spider-Man: Homecoming is the second time actor Tom Holland has played Spider-Man. The first exciting time was in Captain America: Civil War where we saw Holland bring the new iteration of this superhero to life. It was thrilling then and even more so in his own stand alone movie. Finally we get to see an awkward Peter Parker turn into the hero we all want to see. The film’s timeline begins directly after Spider-Man’s fight along side the Avengers in 2016’s Civil War. There is a bit of plot that gives the audience some context from eight years before during the Avenger’s NYC fight with Loki.

Peter Parker has some typical teenage moments with his adult mentors Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), who offer advice that Peter follows and also ignores. With the addition of Tony Stark into the Spider-Man franchise fans are given a full dose of the Marvel Universe that they have been clambering about for years. Aunt May played by Marisa Tomei is also fabulous and gives us some of the more family moments of this much needed teenage format. 
 
This version of Spider-Man and Peter Parker is less cocky that some of the other offerings we’ve been spoon fed through the years. Something that Holland latches onto and really makes his own. It is part of what makes the story believable and what makes Holland so lovable. The movie delivers some genuinely effective action/suspense, ranging from the Washington Monument to the Staten Island Ferry to Coney Island and beyond. Director Jon Watts has put together a well crafted movie for the superhero genre. Sure there are bad guys and explosions, but the movie has a lot of heart and just the right amount of CGI.
 
Overall, this is the best of the Spider-Man movies – by far. Actually using a teenage actor in the role of Spider-Man is very pleasing and genuinely needed for believability. As for story, this might be the best superhero story so far to have gotten it so right. If you’re a fan or not this is a good movie on its own merits. Swing down to your friendly neighborhood theater and catch it on the big screen!

HISTORY OF THE JUKEBOX

Coin-operated music boxes and player pianos were the first forms of automated coin-operated musical devices. These instruments used paper rolls, metal disks, or metal cylinders to play a musical selection on the instrument, or instruments, enclosed within the device. In the 1890s these devices were joined by machines which used actual recordings instead of physical instruments. In 1890, Louis Glass and William S. Arnold invented the nickel-in-the-slot phonograph, the first of which was an Edison Class M Electric Phonograph retrofitted with a device patented under the name of Coin Actuated Attachment for Phonograph. The music was heard via one of four listening tubes.

Early designs, upon receiving a coin, unlocked the mechanism, allowing the listener to turn a crank that simultaneously wound the spring motor and placed the reproducer’s stylus in the starting groove. Frequently, exhibitors would equip many of these machines with listening tubes (acoustic headphones) and array them in “phonograph parlors”, allowing the patron to select between multiple records, each played on its own machine. Some machines even contained carousels and other mechanisms for playing multiple records. Most machines were capable of holding only one musical selection, the automation coming from the ability to play that one selection at will. In 1918 Hobart C. Niblack patented an apparatus that automatically changed records, leading to one of the first selective jukeboxes being introduced in 1927 by the Automated Musical Instrument Company, later known as AMI.

In 1928, Justus P. Seeburg, who was manufacturing player pianos, combined an electrostatic loudspeaker with a record player that was coin-operated, and gave the listener a choice of eight records. This Audiophone machine was wide and bulky, and had eight separate turntables mounted on a rotating Ferris wheel-like device, allowing patrons to select from eight different records. Later versions of the jukebox included Seeburg’s Selectophone, with 10 turntables mounted vertically on a spindle. By maneuvering the tone arm up and down, the customer could select from 10 different records.

The term jukebox came into use in the United States beginning in 1940, apparently derived from the familiar usage “juke joint“, derived from the Gullah word “juke” or “joog” meaning disorderly, rowdy, or wicked.[6] As it applies to the ‘use of a jukebox’, the terms juking (v.) and juker (n.) are the correct expressions.

Song-popularity counters told the owner of the machine the number of times each record was played (A and B side were generally not distinguished), with the result that popular records remained, while lesser-played songs could be replaced.

Wallboxes were an important, and profitable, part of any jukebox installation. Serving as a remote control, they enabled patrons to select tunes from their table or booth. One example is the Seeburg 3W1, introduced in 1949 as companion to the 100-selection Model M100A jukebox. Stereo sound became popular in the early 1960s, and wallboxes of the era were designed with built-in speakers to provide patrons a sample of this latest technology.

Initially playing music recorded on wax cylinders, the shellac 78 rpm record dominated jukeboxes in the early part of the 20th century. The Seeburg Corporation introduced an all 45 rpm vinyl record jukebox in 1950; since the 45s were smaller and lighter, they soon became the dominant jukebox media for the last half of the 20th century. 33⅓-R.P.M., C.D.s, and videos on DVDs were all introduced and used in the last decades of the century. MP3 downloads, and Internet-connected media players came in at the start of the 21st century. The jukebox’s history has followed the wave of technological improvements in music reproduction and distribution. With its large speaker size, facilitating low-frequency (rhythm) reproduction, and large amplifier, the jukebox played sound with higher quality and volume than the listener could in his or her home, sometimes music with a “beat”.

Jukeboxes were most popular from the 1940s through the mid-1960s, particularly during the 1950s. By the middle of the 1940s, three-quarters of the records produced in America went into jukeboxes. While often associated with early rock and roll music, their popularity extends back much earlier, including classical music, opera and the swing music era.

Styling progressed from the plain wooden boxes in the early thirties to beautiful light shows with marbelized plastic and color animation in the Wurlitzer 850 Peacock of 1941. But after the United States entered the war, metal and plastic were needed for the war effort. Jukeboxes were considered “nonessential”, and none were produced until 1946. The 1942 Wurlitzer 950 featured wooden coin chutes to save on metal. At the end of the war, in 1946, jukebox production resumed and several “new” companies joined the fray. Jukeboxes started to offer visual attractions: bubbles, waves, circles of changing color which came on when a sound was played.

 

Giant Battleship Game Arrives Summer 2017

Giant Battleship GameWe’ve all played it, that wonderful game that pits player against player with warring strategy and tempts us all to throw the board. The game, is Battleship. The goal of Battleship is to hit the opponent’s ships with pegs or ‘missiles’ until you win. Each player is given the opportunity to configure their battle plan however they choose placing their ships around the board. A little unknown fact is that this game was once known as the ‘pencil and paper game’ because it started out as a game that was played with note pads.

Dating back to World War I, the concept of Battleship originated when war games were popular. Beginning as a ‘pencil and pad’ game, it was published in this form by several companies and in the 1960’s was released as a plastic board game by the toy and gaming giant, Milton Bradley. The game was thought to have originated in France and has changed and evolved ever since.

Battleship is played with two players who each have their own fleet of ships. Each player places their fleet on a grid (squares) that are identified by a number and a letter for coordinates. There are five ships that are placed on the grid and include: the carrier, which is five grid spaces; the battleship that is four; the cruiser that is three; the submarine that is 3; and the destroyer that is two.

Once the players place their ships on the grid each takes turns shooting missiles to sink each other’s fleets. If a ship is hit, you put a peg in it to show that it has been hit. The game goes on until one player sinks all the ships of the other player.

The Roll-A-Ball Carnival Trailer ‘Makeover Project’

This summer the project that got the Amusement Masters team really jazzed was the restoration and refurbish of our Roll-A-Ball Carnival Trailer! Always a popular game for events, clients love adding Roll-A-Ball Trailer to event entertainment options year around. We believe in keeping our games up to date and fresh though, so occasionally a game has to be sidelined and freshened up. And while the restoration process is never easy, it’s always worth it. These games are like family members and we hate to see them taken out of rotation for any length of time. But when they return, we’re always thrilled – we love that they come back from the shop so nice and shiny!

More than just a simple refresh, we’re proud to present the Roll-A-Ball ‘makeover project’. Sure the graphics have been brightened and brought up to date. Yes, the addition of more bells and whistles makes the game a little more exciting. But every surface you see has been cleaned, refreshed and touched up. Also, the game mechanics have received a loving touch which makes the responsiveness that much faster with an even better tactile feel.
